Updates for week of May 28th – June 3rd

  • East West Bookstore – Starting in June East West Books is hosting a World Peace Meditation on the first Wednesday of each month. This is a wonderful opening for our work as we have been trying to set this up since the Center Opened. Many thanks to Mary Gioggomoto for setting this up. Initially the meditation will be between 5:00 and 6:00 PM. A special notice will go out next week.
  • The Money Talks – revision. We will not be posting this transcript on our Yahoo Group site as proposed last week as the CD set of Sri Atmananda's Money and Matter Talks from 2004 is just about to be released. These CD's will at the Center in the near future. If any of you are still interested in the Money Talks you can borrow the transcripts from the Center library.
  • Center Library – The Center now has many books and CD's now available on a wide range of spiritual topics and viewpoints. Each book or CD can be borrowed for 30 days but only one at a time. If you have used books, CD's or DVD's on spiritual topics that you would like to share you can donate them to the library at the Center.
  • A New Program: Explorations – "an inquiry into spirit". An informal forum is starting up for those seeking more individual guidance, information and insight into the nature of the spiritual path and its process. This program will occur twice a month. The first will be this Sunday afternoon before the WPM and the other on a Saturday after the potluck lunch. See below and the June calendar for more details and times.

Thursday (May 31st )

  • 7:00 PM: World Peace Meditation. This group meditation seeks to expand World Peace by using a special mantra and breathing technique. We will be finished by 8:00 PM. This program are OPEN to ALL.

Friday (June 1st )

  • 7:00 PM: HAMSA Group Meditation. This technique is for those who are experienced with the World Peace Meditation and want to move to the next level. This technique activates the next higher chakra centers by expanding our connection with the Universal. A minimum of three people are required. **If you are interested in joining this group please contact Siddhartha directly **.

Saturday (June 2nd )

  • 10:00 AM : Foundation Course Study Group This is Sri Atmananda's self-study Course on the Bhagavad Gita. This week we will continue exploring the fifth Chapter, the Yoga of Renunciation. On the spiritual path once the light of spiritual knowledge starts flowing a natural renunciation starts to occur. This class will explore this process and how we can collaborate with it. The Foundation Course Book is recommended for this class. If you do not have a book yet you can pick up one at the Center.
  • 12:00 PM : POT LUCK LUNCH. (vegetarian) Come join us for good food, good company and good spirits. Feel free to bring something to share ** Open to all **

  • 11:00 AM : Chanting of the 1000 Names of Lord Vishnu. In this program we chant as a group the thousand name of God. It is a powerful method of evoking the Divine presences. All are invited.
  • 5:00 PM: Explorations – an inquiry into spirit: This is an informal forum to explore together the more individual aspects of the spiritual path, the process one goes through, the experiences and symptoms one has on the journey and the nature of the goal of this endeavor. It is an opportunity to share, ask questions and gain insights into where you stand on your journey towards the Divine.

  • Money and Wealth This last Sunday we began an exploration of the role money and wealth plays on the spiritual path, drawing on the wisdom of the fourth chapter of Sri Aurobindo's Mother Book. It was a very useful inquiry.

This class will explore what is kundalini, the chakra system, how does it work and what are the experiences and symptoms on one who is in the transformation process. As a person's system opens to spiritual energies a process begins that affects every component of the human system. One can have strange, wonderful, disturbing and even painful experiences and symptoms. This class will be an opportunity to share and learn from each other what the kundalini is and what part it plays in the transformation process.

  • Change in Program There will be no HAMSA Meditation on Friday in lieu of the Snatam Kaur Concert at the Christ Unity Church, 9249 Folsom Blvd at 7:00 PM this Friday Evening. There are still tickets available. A portion of this sale goes to our Center so if you have not bought tickets yet now is the time to buy.   • Executive Committee Vacancy The Center is supported by the three members of the executive committee who work with Siddhartha to maintain, administrate and plan for all Center activities. The committee positions are currently filled by Wenda Merz, Rasha Salama and Jeanie Allam. Jeanie will be leaving the committee on June 13 th. . Therefore there is an now an opening. If you have interest in serving the Center in this way or would like further details, please contact Siddhartha or talk to any committee member.

This class will explore the Nature of Doubt as revealed in Verse 202. This verse reveals some fundamental obstacles to progress on the spiritual path. What are they? What is your experience with these obstacles? Contemplate on this verse and come ready to share and discuss your insights and experiences with the group.   • Change in Program: Siddhartha has felt to make a change in this weekend's program from what was shown on the May calendar. Please note the changes below.
  • Center Phone: We have been having problems with the Center phone taking messages recently. Our phone service was upgraded without our knowledge so we had unwittingly lost our voice mail. But the problem has been corrected (we think) and now we even have our own voice mail message.
  • India Ashram Journal : Kathy Foley has been sending out a weekly journal of activities and summaries of Bhagavan's talks from the Satyachetana Ashram in India. If you have not been receiving them and would like to be added to her email list please contact Kathy at iambaraka@hotmail.com

  • 10:00 AM : The Nature of Death It may be that in our culture our whole relation to life is shaped by this topic, either due to fear or to denial. There is an important interconnection between life, death and spirit. This workshop will be an opportunity to explore this interconnection experientially using small groups and personal sharing.

· 1:00 PM: The Secret – a video. There will be a viewing of this DVD on the "secret" of creating our lives in harmony with the universal principles of the creation. Our yoga does not exclude the material world. Many of our struggles on the spiritual path are due to learned dysfunctional behaviors. This video reveals how we trap ourselves and how to break this conditioning. This video can be a useful tool for those of us seeking to manifest spirit in our lives.

  • Announcement: Siddhartha's son, Aaron Barbour has passed away. A memorial service is being held in Sebastapol this Saturday. The notice is attached. Death and grief are powerful shared experiences of all humanity. The compassion love and support for Siddhartha and Aaron's mother, Gretchen, who happens to be staying at the Center, has been deeply appreciated. The Divine presence is palatable as was the feeling of love and community. Special thanks to all who expressed their love and support.
